Askiy Metoni Kisâkihiitinâwâw / The Land Loves Us

We come from the land and we will return to the land. We are held by the stars and nurtured by the earth. The land is our greatest teacher. By her abundance and constant regeneration we learn about generosity and kindness. By her fluid cycles we learn to let go and to grow. If we look for it, the land will offer us solace in our darkest hour, and answer our human hearts' deepest longing for connection and purpose. Everything we need to thrive has always come from our first mother - the land. Our plant and animal relatives with whom we share the planet seem to already know that the land loves us. Daily they reflect this great love through song and beauty and service. We could learn from them. As humans we forget we are loved by the land, and this forgetting makes us feel disconnected. We become fearful that we don’t have enough, and this is the root cause of the great (dis)ease that wounds our planet. These works are a personal prayer to remember. They are a humble expression of love and gratitude and JOY at realizing deep in my bones that the land has always loved us.
